Comments

When visitors leave comments on the website, we collect the data entered in the comment field as well as the visitor's IP address and user agent string to assist with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also known as a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to verify that you are using it. The Gravatar service's privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should ensure that no embedded location data (EXIF GPS) is included. Visitors to the website can download and extract the location data from the images.

Cookies

When you leave a comment on our website, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so that you do not have to re-enter your details when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we also set up several cookies to store your login information and your display preferences. Login cookies last for two days and display options cookies last for one year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for a fortnight. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data and only shows the post ID of the article you have edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking services and monitor your interaction with this embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

With whom we share your data

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the password reset email.

How long we store your data

When you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are stored indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically recognise and approve subsequent comments instead of putting them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have to your data

If you have an account on this website or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data that we are required to keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments can be checked by an automated spam detection service.
